PART 2: STEAL ANALYSIS (BILL)

"I hope she's okay"


"Bill thinks you’re a very good cousin and he’s grateful to you for taking good care of me when I first arrived."


In the line itself, it symbolizes that Bill was very caring and gentleman towards a woman, he still manage to look for other despite that he was also under the influence of alcohol. On the beginning part of the story where Bill thanked Ben for taking care of Carol and they were pleased to invite him at their wedding because he was the only relative of her, emblematizes that Bill was family oriented, thoughtful and accommodating especially to those people whom he has a debt of gratitude with.



LOOKS (additional)


"Bill must have been in his late fifties. He was fit and trim–had been married once and had a good business in farm equipment repair"

"I figured he was at least twenty-five years older than Carol but that was okay". “I think he’s all right. He seems to be well off and knows how to live.”


It was directly described in the story that Bill is an old man living with prosperity, a symbol of a typical divorce man who was looking for a partner whom he will spend his remaining years with. The way the author describes him is the way to convey the message to everyone that regardless of our age, we can still look for love and affection. It was also stated in the story that Bill was fit and trim, it symbolizes how discipline and hardworking he is, because despite of his age, he can still manage to look for his health and make his body fit.
